The sun is finally out here in San Diego and the one thing that most people will be applying to theirs bodies over the next several months is sunscreen. Did you know that most sunscreens may act as an endocrine disruptor? Basically that means when you apply sunscreen to your skin and let it soak into your pores you are giving yourself a dose of some chemicals that could mess with your hormones! I am not suggesting that you go completely sans sunscreen because it is important to protect yourself from skin cancer. What I do recommend is that you do your research and find one that is free from chemicals such as oxybenzone or 4-MBC, both of which are chemicals that have been found to have a direct affect on your reproductive, thyroid and immune systems. This is especially important for children, if you are trying to get pregnant, or are already pregnant. Mineral sunscreens seem to be the safest on the market because they stay more on the surface of the skin and yet still provide adequate protection.
