When desperate times call for desperate measures...

Just had to share this because I thought it was funny. I had gone to home depot to pick up the quarter round to go against the base boards on top of the hardwood floors. What I didn't think about before I got there was how I was going to get it to the clinic...this is when the brilliant idea came to me to open the sun roof and just stick the 9 foot pieces of quarter round out of the top of my car. I think this ingenuity is a result of watching my dad strap anything and everything possible, including lumber and mattresses, to the roof of his VW bug when I was little. Like father like daughter!

Open for business!

So it is actually starting to look like a real clinic now!!! With the addition of carpet in the waiting room and hallway and hardwood floors in the treatment rooms the space is complete. Now there are just a few minor decorating things and finishing touches to be done but all in all the hard work is over with (or should I say just the physical labor is over with) and now the fun begins...bring on the patients!

Signs and more!

So things are really coming together now more than ever...we actually have a sign up now with a phone number so that people can find us. We also got our counter top this week. I am happy to report that thanks to the good measuring of my brother Michael the installation went off without a hitch. Did you hear my sigh of relief...ha ha ha! And last but not least our new windows were also installed this week and they look really great too.

Almost there...

Here are some of the more recent photos of our progress. There is paint on the walls and light fixtures in now, yeah!!! We have come such a long way but there is still so much more to do...sometimes I feel like it will never be finished. I was able to get it set up enough to see my first few patients this week though and what a good feeling that was.
This has been quite an experience to say the least. I think over the past six weeks I have experienced every emotion possible...from happiness and joy to anger, frustration, fear and anxiety! We are really through most of the rough stuff now though it is really just more about finishing touches. Except for my floor! I decided to leave the floor as bare concrete and just paint it but it has proven to be one of the biggest headaches. We will see how that turns out...I got on the phone with Behr paint last night and they were able to give me extremely helpful technical advice. This is really a great service that this company provides.
Stay tuned for more updates!

Ready for walls!

We are ready for walls now. My dad and little brother came down on Sunday to help us with the build out. We have all been working so hard to get what normally would take about 4-6 months done in about 6 weeks. We are right on schedule for a July 1st opening!

The floor is finally finished!

Well first it was carpet, then tile, then linoleum and now we are finally down to bare concrete. After many days of hard labor including shoveling tile and grinding concrete we are ready to move on to the next step...framing. Stay tuned for more progress!

the view from my front door...aaaahhhh!

Here it goes...

Here it goes...I have leased a space for my new clinic! We started construction on it this weekend and I have decided to chronicle this adventure for family, friends and anyone else who wants to read about our progress. While the task is very daunting it is also extremely exciting. I realized, as we were knocking down walls and shoveling tile, that this is the culmination of all of the hard work I have done over the last 4+ years.
My new clinic (for which I am still trying to decide on a name) is located in the beautiful neighborhood of San Carlos in San Diego, California. It is a 700 square foot space that is, as of now, just a big rectangle. When we are finished it will be equipped with three treatment rooms each with its own sink and an office for moi!
